Reel U Media was founded by Dal LaMagna in August of 2008 as an attempt to create a new paradigm for distributing message driven documentary films that have a philanthropic mission. The concept is to reel people in online to see these films in theatres, at school showings, online, or by buying a download or DVD of the film. Hence comes the name, "Reel U". The first project of the company is WAR CHILD, Emmanuel Jal’s life story which is featured at this site.

WAR CHILD is an engaging, interesting, and entertaining documentary of a Sudanese child soldier’s life, Emmanuel Jal, who now as a rising Hip Hop musician is on a mission. He wants to educate children in Sudan and Kenya. Reel U Media is committed to Emmanuel's mission and is contributing 25% of its distribution fee (5% of the film’s gross revenues) to Emmanuel's non-profit "Gua Africa" whose mission is to build a school, housing, and medical facilities in Leer, Sudan.
